This site is dedicated to a remarkable hero - a small Mongolian mare named Reckless - who became a National hero in 1954 when an article ran in the Saturday Evening Post about her heroics during several battles in the Korean War. LIFE Magazine ran a Special Collector’s Edition in 1997 entitled “Celebrating our Heroes,” and there’s Reckless listed alongside the likes of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King and Mother Teresa ... just to name a few!

This video features Brigadier General Kevin Killea, then-Commanding General of Camp Pendleton, telling the story of Reckless. New York Racing Authority produced this segment.

We are so excited to announce that we are in the final stages for taking the final monument of SSgt Reckless back home to Korea in 2025, celebrating the 250th birthday of the Marine Corps. This monment has been approved by the Marine Corps, and we are waiting final approval from the Secretary of the Navy.
RECKLESS IS FINALLY GOING HOME!!!
The monument will be placed at Camp Humphreys, the largest military installation in the world outside of the US, and she will stand near Marine Corps Forces Korea (MARFORK) in the first traffic circle as you drive onto the Base. She will be on display for everyone who enters the base to see!
November 10, 2024 was the 70th anniversary of Reckless arriving in America and was guest of honor at the Marines Memorial Club birthday ball that evening. It is appropriate that we take her back home to Korea so she can forever be back in the country from which she came .
The cost of the monument will be $300,000 to get her there. All donors will be placed on the Website Donor Wall (click here), and all donations over $5,000 will be placed on the Monument Plaque in South Korea.

ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE!
